List of terrorist incidents, 1981

The following is a timeline of acts and failed attempts that can be considered non-state terrorism in 1981.

  • May 16: One dead in an explosion in the toilets at the Pan Am terminal at New York's JFK airport. The bombing is claimed by the Puerto Rican Resistance Army.[1]

  • May 9: Assassination attempt against Queen Elizabeth II at Sullom Voe Terminal. Nobody killed.

  • June 10: Eight IRA prisoners shoot their way out of the Crumlin Road Jail in Belfast, using three handguns they had smuggled in.

  • June 28: A bomb explodes in Islamic Rebublican Party headquarters in Tehran, Iran, kills 69, including politician leader Ayatollah Mohammad Beheshti, which blamed for Mujahedin Khalq guerrilla group.[citation needed]

  • August 29: Machine gun and grenade attack on the Stadttempel synagogue in Vienna, 1981 Vienna synagogue attack killing two people and wounding 30. Marwan Hasan and Hesham Mohammed Rajeh were convicted.

  • August 30: A powerful bomb explodes in Prime Minister's Office headquarters, Tehran, Iran, kills ten, including Iranian President Mohammad Ali Rajai and Prime Minister of Mohammad Javad Bahonar, and injures 15, which blamed for Mujahedin Khalq guerrilla group.[citation needed]

  • September 16: A dynamite-packed truck, following explode in outside of Palestine Liberation Organization regional headquarters, Sidin, Lebanon, kills thirty-five and injures eighty. Which responsibility for Front for the Liberation of Lebanon from Foreigners guerrilla group.[citation needed]

  • September 30: A powerful bomb explodes outside PLO regional headquarters, Beirut, Lebanon, kills fifty and injures 255. Which responsibility for Front for the Liberation of Lebanon from Foreigners guerrilla group.[citation needed]

  • October 6: Assassination of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat by Islamic Jihad.

  • October 20: Attack on a synagogue in Antwerp, Belgium, killing three and wounding sixty.

  • November 29: A bomb explodes in many vehicles, following to a school damaged in Azbakya district, Damascus, Syria, kills sixty-four and injures 135, which responsibility for Front for the Liberation of Lebanon from Foreigners guerrilla group.[citation needed]

  • December 14: A bomb explodes in Iraqi Embassy and nearby area, Beirut, Lebanon, kills twenty and injures thirty, which blamed on Kurdistan Liberation Army guerrilla group
